Meridian Pi dispatches stored hydrogen through a dual fuel cell architecture -- solid oxide fuel cells for continuous baseload and PEM fuel cells for peaking response. The system can restart from zero without any external grid assistance.
Different load profiles require different fuel cell technologies. Solid oxide fuel cells are optimized for continuous, steady-state generation. PEM fuel cells excel at rapid response to load spikes. The dual architecture separates these functions -- each technology operates in its optimal range, and the lithium buffer handles sub-second transient events.
When hydrogen converts to power through the fuel cell, the byproduct is water. Meridian Pi captures this water output and recirculates it back to the electrolyzer as feedstock for hydrogen production -- reducing atmospheric extraction requirements and making the system increasingly self-sufficient over time.
Black-start and islanded operation requirements are factored into every Meridian Pi system design. Tell us your reliability requirements.
